| Görlitz is a small city in Germany on the Lusatian Neisse River, in the Bundesland (Federal State) of Saxony whose origins go back to 1017. It is opposite the Polish town of Zgorzelec, which was a part of Görlitz until 1945. Historically, Görlitz belongs to the region of Upper Lusatia. Today it is the easternmost town in Germany and very close to Prague. Görlitz can look back on a rich cultural- and educational heritage. Over the past few years the city centre has been largely redeveloped and buildings in Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Wilhelminian style and Art Nouveau shine in new splendor. Attributes like "picture book of architecture" and "The most beautiful town of Germany" describe this unique town. The European City of Görlitz is not only an attractive business location but also a great place for living, working and learning and always worth a visit for tourists. |
