- M D medicine - Dr. Grant Medical College and also a Business Management Degree holder
- Dr Marthak spent 13 years with Novartis where he was involved in Phase 1 studies as early as 1978-79 when phase I clinical research in India was virtually non-existent.
- Initiated clinical trials for USFDA submission and data management while working with Pfizer as Vice President Clinical Research.
- Invited by Harvard business school to deliver a lecture on Scope of Clinical Research in India
- Invited by Stanley business school to talk on CROs and Clinical Research in India
- President - Association of Medical Advisors of Pharmaceutical Industry
- Executive Committee Member – International Federation of Association of Pharmaceutical Physicians
- Board Member for designing the modules for Academy of Clinical Research
- Chief organizer of the International conference of Clinical Research held by CII-New Delhi in the year 2002.
- Faculty for Pharmaceutical medicine – University of London
- Fellow member - American college of Chest Physician
- Fellow member - Royal Society of Medicine
- Actively involved with regulatory authorities like US FDA, UK MHRA, China SFDA, South Africa MCC, MHCW and of course India DCGI.
- Worked with Ranbaxy as Vice President Clinical Research and with German Remedies as Medical Director.
